Why Velevet Cacoon Sucks:

Velvet Cacoon's shoegazer / dreampop recordings were stolen albums. "How the Last Day Came and Stayed then Faded into Simulated Rain" demo was almost completely stolen from Korouva's "Shipwrecks & Russian Roulette". Korouva's album has 10 tracks, while VC's demo has 9, though two tracks that can be found in Korouva's Myspace are not in VC's demo. The "Dizzy from Eternity" demo is in fact My Violent Ego's "Clicks & Hisses".

Message from Miranda Lehman aka Korouva: "To the fans of Velvet Cacoon: It has recently come to my attention that the band Velvet Cacoon has not only STOLEN artwork and photos on their website from other artists but also their ENTIRE album, "How the last day came and stayed then faded into simulated rain". This "highly elusive" demo album is actually the property of another musician named Miranda Lehman, aka Korouva. The album's real name is Shipwrecks & Russian Roulette and has been sold through the website 16sparrows since February of 2005, before the release of the Velvet Cacoon Demo. Tracks from Korouva's album were also posted on her Livejournal, in working form, long before any Velvet Cacoon release. When Confronted with these accusations, Velvet Cacoon deleted their official Myspace music page which contained stolen tracks and artwork from Miranda. You can see that they link to their myspace page on their official site and that the myspace page has been deleted.
http://www.velvetcacoon.com/news/. Their main myspace fan page contains stolen illustration and music as well: "lilac wine, black leaves and me" (real name, "Tide") and also the illustration of a girl with a ship that goes along with the song. http://www.myspace.com/velvetcacoon. Korouva's own myspace page is here, where she also links to 16sparrows http://myspace.com/korouva. I am sorry to all the devoted fans who have been deceived by Velvet Cacoon, their blatant theft of another artist's work is absolutely unforgivable."

Note: VC' song "Chesapeake Tide" is Korouva's "Tide", not "Lilac Wine, Black Leaves and me"

Josh's message taken from their google e-group:
"And on the subject of Velvet Cacoon, the band is a total fraud. Nothing about it holds any importance. The "How the Last Day" demo isn't even us. It's Miranda Lehman from Portland. (check the Wiki site). "Dizzy" isn't us. It's "My Violent Ego". Nothing is us. "Northsuite" was recorded in 3 hours and sold to a fake label who paid us enough for rent and substances. That's why its so terrible. We're utter bastards. We have no respect for anything. Now we're beginning the campaign to show just what we've done. We are walking examples of what far too many drugs will do. They make you crave havoc. They make you want to turn the world upside down while laughing like a maniac.

And now the soft afterglow sets in. VC is winding down. One last album. One final collection. And the damn thing isn't even recorded yet. Maybe we'll just steal it too. I must tell you that our correspondence will not continue much longer. I'm going to make a clean break - you'll know when the moment hits. You'll know exactly what I mean too.

First, I must convince the world that I am nothing special or intelligent, nor was Velvet Cacoon. If there was discussion about us before, I can only imagine what is about to come.

Feel free to spread this letter."

An essay

This is a rough essay I just wrote outlining my philosophy of everything. I urge you to debate me on it!

A Reformulation of Perspective

Naturally, humans are prone to attaching value to others in relationship to themselves, and inevitably have deemed someone "bad" by their standards at some point in time. Bad here meaning inferior in some aspect, whether it be strength, will, or morality. Begging the question that these values are objective, humans go on to make complex ethical and political theories and proposals, all of which depend upon the truth and existence of these values. Though even the most iconoclastic of philosophers fall into this trap of sorts, it is dogmatism of the highest order. What said philosophers do not take into account is the past, the origin of the present; they merely see a fool begging for shelter and food and pass him off as a neanderthal, with nothing keeping him alive. But when one sees the entirety of the picture, he will understand that this fool is to be no object of contempt or disgust.

To you, it is an enigma. The man, as far as you are concerned, is mere meat and by far no exception to your misanthropy. You can see no logical justification to not hate the poor fool; but that is natural. The only people who see the beggar as an equal are the pious dogmatists, who even then frown upon him if he does not follow their even more foolish doctrine. But I am not the first to say that this fool deserves no foul thoughts or insults.

The answer is determinism. Not strict determinism or fatalism, no; purely the concept of cause and effect on a sociological scale. I am not intending to say we have no free will like many determinists indeed claim, I am quite simply pointing out that our wills will act in reaction to a cause and follow the laws of nature. And it is true that the cause is always justification for the effect by the very definition of justification. All things taken into account, the future can be predicted rather accurately by the mere cosmic state of all things in the time directly before it. Thus it is true that when one murders another, it is not a necessary happening by any means, but it is completely justified by the reason for that murder, which itself has a reason, and that reason a reason, and so on ad infinitum. Soon enough it will come to a reason that is completely lacking in maliciousness, which shall be the justification for all things proceeding it. But this is mere philisophical explanation, which holds not a candle to example.

Say there is someone who attacks another and becomes a thief of his life. At first sight, it is a crime and deserves harsh and long punishment. But before we make our judgement, let us follow the reasons why this even happened. Let us say, to be as hard an example as possible, that the attacker attacked the man for no reason other than bloodlust. How much more evil this subject is becoming! But let's follow the causes a bit further... You will see that the attacker had the bloodlust only because he hated humans at the moment, and had nothing better to do in accordance with the hate than attack the man. Still more unjustifiable. But ask yourself, why would he feel a hate for humans? Perhaps he was reading some Kant, and doing so felt, like so many others, a fierce wave of absurdity cripple the dams of his mind. This was the destroyer of boundaries. And then, attending church, felt an urge bordering on insanity to dismantle, limb by limb, the clergyman and defile the remains. This was the destroyer of empathy and the catalyst of hate. The hate coupled with the absurdism, following the laws of nature and the nature of the man himself, led to one result almost completely unavoidable. The murder of a man.

It is an odd tale and an unlikely one, but think of any crime in the history of all things and see if you cannot think of a reason why it occured. None have come to me as of yet. So, furthering ourselves down the inevitable path of this essay, conclusions must be made in accordance with this determinism. Several philosophers have given several answers, one being Nietzsche's amor fati, or love of fate. Though "fate" is a strong word to use, it is compatible with determinism in this context. To gain the most benefit in any situation is to, of course, love the situation and thus gain all the joys that can be had out of it. It is the most rewarding approach to a determined life. My own contribution is the virtue of taking a positive approach to human beings, as with all things. Think of the poor fool described earlier in the essay. He had no choice in his circumstance due to all the events preceding the circumstance, and thus, while still being rather worthless, there exists no logical reason to hate the man. And the same, of course, can be applied to all humans, no matter how dire their crime.

But again the most virtuous understanding of all is the reason to life itself--a monolithic thing indeed. One must obviously avoid religious nihilism, caring only for the afterlife, denying the one he or she lives right now. Without this faith in better days or better beings, we can actually make life a valuable thing and profit from it--love it, as Nietzsche instructs us to do. Life is opium! It is paramount we indulge in this drug and withdraw from it the ecstasy all have sought after. We must, like Sisyphus, after a seeming eternity of pain and loss, conclude that all has been well. For it is true, and no less true in death.

Later.

Well, about a week ago I went to the doctor for a check up (I get them because my family has a rather long line of bad health--mostly cancer), but I'm usually not very nervous about these things because my father survived cancer (though my grandfather did pass away due to it; he was quite old and it was a very nasty version, so I didn't see it as something to worry me now). My going to the doctor is really just a nuisance now.

Apparently I have something a bit more than a nuisance. When I heard I had cancer, I didn't worry too much (the cancer my closest relative had was of the testicular sort, and that has a 90% cure rate); but I don't have any "afterthought" cancer, unfortunately. Rather, I have lung cancer, most likely due to all of the second hand smoking I have done throughout my life. You could probably tell that I'm not the healthiest child in the world, and that's probably not going to help my case. My doctor said I had a 10% chance of living, though it's probably lower than that. As of now there is no good research on what foods help victims of cancer, and most other therapy is dangerous due to my age. So, as to not let you read on too long, you could merely say that I am dead where I stand.

I'm not going to spout out pretentious bullshit or give you the impression that I am strong or attractively rid of fear, because quite frankly I don't give the slightest fuck how impressive I am right now. If death is painless, dying is hell--and the former probably sucks the shit, as well. Simply, I didn't do much here or even the smallest fraction of what I may have wanted to. But that's life (the end of it, anyways).

So, I leave you all with this. Thanks for being people who at least deserve to live. You don't know how much that's worth.

Oh yeah, and may I redirect your attention to the top of this entry, where it says the date? Yes, the first day of April. That's right. Boy, would I have loved to see your faces.

Owned,

Mason Spransy.

New song "Creed of the Drifting" has been recorded. Listen here.

Origin of Concepts demo is soon to be finshed, proceeding which I have planned 3 splits with other bands. Things are moving fast...

In other news, I have discovered the following bands to be amazing: Lord Wind, Sear Bliss, and The Funeral Orchestra.
Those who don't see life as just pure entertainment are missing the point.

This poem is my interpretation of Nietzche's "Overman."

That Which Transcends

In chariots once faring above us,
Gods and bigots alike laughed, imitating superiority
Yet they were, too, weak and mere mortals
In the face of the inevitability of an evolving reality.

In time these deities past away
leaving behind naught but a trail of stupidity
Humans bought in and these humans died off
And now they despair as they decay.

Throughout time, as a mirror of others the lesser beings acted
Awaiting change in their favour yet surviving before this longer yet
To them I say: Hark! In due time what was will be no more and it will be so
The birth of that which transcends history--behold, the overman!

Basically, this portrays the Overman as something higher than God; Gods of different names pass with the years and therefore are only temporary things, existing as they do only in accordance with the age. The Overman is the person who's essence transcends time and history, and rather than leading to a new age, exemplefies something existent within all ages. This could be a human craft (literature, artistry) or philosophy. I don't think of the overman as one who discovers something, but rather understands an objective truth that is not veiled by the likes of language. This is just my interpretation, though.

I am quite aware that I have not updated this journal in a substantial amount of time. As of late this has been impossible; school and the like have left with me with a lack of time to accomplish such things. The storm has lightened, though, and I believe I will be more able to post from now on.

With no other thing to say, I will finish this with a suggestion to listen to a few relatively enjoyable bands. These are as follows:

Belenos
Aakon Keetreh
Stillhet
Falkenbach
Anaal Nathrakh
Haemoth
Graven
Akercocke

In future entries I plan on presenting something of more use.

Omgz.

Antitrust

My newest poem. About a person who murders his wife.

Raven Dressed

She was, as I saw it, laying there.
A drape of melancholy and chronic despair,
shifting amongst not but her, but him too.
Behold, murder. What else am I to do?

The cold steel, piercing, as it was intended to be
Voices, chanting "impale the upper thigh, drag it down to the knee."
Shivering thither accompanied by a faded red coat
"I love you too," that is what she wrote.

As did I, now, I rewrote the phrase
"I love you too" and there your body lays.
See it upon the wall in fine red ink
Blood, body, soul; where art this missing link?

"She will be had by no one," I heard
Not from her; I quote a raven dressed bird
It fluttered about as I ended them so
To me it reminded "do kill her too, as she was always your foe"

That I did, lacking hesitation
I await this to be fed to my god-loving nation
I love her, and of that I understate
Yet I've been feeling a bit homicidal as of late

I believe well you shall see, certainly
How I can't let you leave mercifully
From this dank room foul for intercourse
Though one fitting of my chef'doeuvre of force.

Behold, again, this is how your world will end
Pain, I have some, and of my collection I'll lend
Do remember my passion for you, my dear
But love, my love, is the essence of fear.

I feel outstandingly misanthropic right now. Usually you will find me apathetic towards others, yet at this moment I would actually waste my time ending their lives.

I'm going to steal this interview for my own use, and you are going to read it. Deal.

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
Pets.

2.
How to spot an Atheist

Yesterday's venture was overly unsuccesful; but enjoyable nonetheless. I had been invited to occur with the Lekans at the Manor theater; but, considering my presence, it was inevitable the seats for the movie would be sold out. So we agreed to travel to their residence (we were considering seeing Jarhead, but the resulting bible-smacking prevented this); and there we again agreed on viewing "THX 1139." The concept of the movie was intriguing, yet the film itself was rather slow. Proceeding the picture, Daniel, Stephen, Cat, and I indulged in some brief Gary's Mod videos which afforded us ample amusement, and then departed.

That is the whole of it; and now I must leave you. Good day.
